President Volodymyr Zelensky made a general statement with his Polish colleague Andrzej Duda, who arrived in Ukraine on an official visit. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the President.

Thus, in the statement of the presidents of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland:

  • emphasize the importance of Ukrainian-Polish bilateral relations, which have the character of a strategic partnership;
  • express their will for their comprehensive development for the benefit of our societies and economies;
  • agree that the coronavirus pandemic has significantly affected the global and regional order;
  • emphasize the need to strengthen international cooperation to overcome new challenges and threats;
  • note the respect of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland for international law and the basic principles of international relations, while simultaneously calling for an end to the illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the ongoing aggression in the Donbass.

Besides:

— Poland expresses its interest in cooperation with Ukraine within the framework of the international platform for the de-occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Krym.

— Ukraine and Poland note the right of citizens of all countries to determine their future as a result of democratic elections.

— Poland confirms its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

— We condemn crimes against humanity, in particular those committed on the basis of hatred, and we believe that they cannot be justified in any way. We recognize the importance of worthy commemoration of innocent victims of conflicts and political repressions of the XNUMXth century. We emphasize the need to ensure the search and exhumation of these victims in Ukraine and Poland in order to pay tribute to their memory and their still living relatives and descendants in the spirit of respect for historical truth, the statement also says.

The heads of state condemned acts of abuse of Ukrainian cultural monuments and places of memory in Poland and Polish cultural monuments and places of memory in Ukraine, and also called on the relevant authorities to exercise proper care over them.

— We confirm the importance of protecting the rights of national minorities in Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, in particular in the field of education, in accordance with international obligations and bilateral agreements. The principles of the functioning of schools of the Polish minority in Ukraine and schools of the Ukrainian minority in Poland will be regulated by an agreement between our governments in a separate order, the presidents emphasized.

They also confirmed the attitude of both countries to cooperate in order to further deepen relations between Ukraine and the European Union based on the principles of association and deep economic integration. We positively assess the results of the 22nd Ukraine-European Union Summit, which took place on October 6 this year.

— Ukraine expresses gratitude to the Republic of Poland for the practical support of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations, primarily in the process of reforming the national security and defense sector in accordance with NATO standards. Both sides emphasize the importance of the North Atlantic Alliance granting Ukraine the status of a partner with enhanced capabilities, the statement added.

In addition, the Ukrainian side confirms the immutability of the state's course on the implementation of a complex of ambitious reforms, strengthening the rule of law and overcoming corruption. The Polish side confirms its readiness to provide further support for systemic reforms in Ukraine.

Finally, the parties:

1. They confirmed the need for further development of the capabilities and potential of the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade named after the Great Hetman Konstantin Ostrozhsky.

2. They noted the importance of mutually beneficial economic cooperation with the aim of fully utilizing the opportunities offered by the Ukrainian and Polish markets in the context of the functioning deep and comprehensive free trade zone between the European Union and Ukraine.

3. We saw the need to urgently activate the work of the Ukrainian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. The growth of mutual investments in Ukraine and Poland meets the interests of the two states, so it is important to create favorable conditions for doing business.

4. emphasized the need for further cooperation in the energy sector to strengthen energy security in the region and Europe as a whole. We see the importance of increasing the reliability and diversification of energy supplies, as well as ensuring the transparency of the energy sector.

5. emphasized the need for cooperation in order to strengthen the role of our region as an important transport-transit, infrastructure and innovation-investment center for the European continent.

6. declared the need to continue the work of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, the next full session of which will be held in Warsaw.

7. They recognized that humanitarian and cultural cooperation remains an important part of the bilateral agenda and will be aimed at promoting human contacts, developing new initiatives and implementing joint projects in the fields of education, science, healthcare, sports, youth exchanges, and tourism.

We note that tomorrow, October 13, the presidents will visit Odessa, where they will take part in the work of the Ukrainian-Polish economic forum.
