Counter-intelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine on the territory of the Volyn region exposed and terminated the intelligence activity to the detriment of the state security of our country of a citizen of Belarus. This was reported in the SBU press center.
It was established that he was recruited by the Belarusian KGB and purposefully arrived on the territory of our state to perform intelligence tasks and organize other illegal activities.
The law enforcement officers recorded that the employees of the foreign special service worked for the agent to gather up-to-date information about the situation in the border zone. In particular:
- about the state of security of the state border of Ukraine;
- on the order of border protection;
- about the technical equipment, the number of personnel of the State Border Service of Ukraine;
- characterizing and compromising data on border guards and customs officers, etc.
To this end, the KGB agent tried to enlist the confidential cooperation of servicemen of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
In addition to obtaining intelligence information, the curators demanded that the agent establish channels for transporting weapons and dual-purpose goods across the state border.
The data obtained by the SBU counterintelligence show that this activity, among other things, was aimed at organizing provocations and creating informational reasons for accusing Ukraine of allegedly supplying weapons to destabilize the domestic political situation in Belarus.
The investigators announced to the citizen of Belarus that he is suspected of having committed the crime provided for in part 1. Article 114 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Espionage).
