Hungary and the Russian Federation concluded a contract for the supply of gas for 15 years bypassing Ukraine: Kyiv is unhappy

The Kremlin is playing by its own rules in order to leave our country with gas transit, the Cabinet of Ministers are sure.

Hungary and Russia have reached a new long-term agreement on the supply of Russian gas, which will enter into force on October 1, 2021. About it on Monday on its page in Facebook said the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto, who held a working meeting with the head of Gazprom Alexey Miller in St. Petersburg.

"The new agreement with Gazprom is designed for 15 years with the possibility of changing the volume of gas purchases after 10 years. "Gazprom" will deliver 4,5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Hungary every year," he said, noting that 3,5 billion will be delivered through Serbia, and 1 billion through Austria.

Szijjarto also indicated that thanks to the new deal, Hungary will buy gas "at a much better price than under the expiring contract."

The company "Operator of the gas transport system of Ukraine" said that the new agreement between Hungary and the Russian gas monopolist "Gazprom" on the supply of Russian gas for a period of 15 years contributes to the Kremlin's goal of leaving Ukraine with gas transit.

Serhiy Makogon, the head of "Operator GTS Ukrainy" called this agreement "another example of how Gazprom dictates the terms of gas supply, including supply routes, in those countries that are critically dependent on Russian gas supplies."

He drew attention to the fact that according to the new agreement, instead of the direct route Russia — Ukraine — Hungary, which has supplied gas to Hungary uninterruptedly for decades, now the gas will go along the route Russia — Turkey — Bulgaria — Serbia — Hungary, which is significantly longer.

"It is clear that the new route cannot be cheaper than the Ukrainian one, but Gazprom successfully hides transport costs in the final price of gas. The Kremlin's final goal is to leave Ukraine completely free of transit, regardless of costs, in order to increase political and military pressure on Ukraine," Makogon emphasized.
