He has not been to the family for 8 years.

Ex-president of Georgia and former governor of Odesa region Mikhail Saakashvili, who returned to Georgia on October 1, after an 8-year absence, was detained there. A whole bouquet of criminal cases awaits his family.

This was stated by the country's Prime Minister Irakliy Garibashvili during the briefing.

"The third president of Georgia, the wanted Mikhail Saakashvili, has been detained and transferred to a penitentiary," he said.

Irakly Garybashvili did not specify where Saakashvili was detained, but noted that the law enforcement officers had preliminary information about the movement of the ex-president, starting from Ukraine and ending in Georgia.

Georgian television reports that Saakashvili is now in Rustavskaya prison near Tbilisi. A case of embezzlement and abuse of authority has been filed against him.

Earlier, the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, said that he had returned to his family. He published a corresponding post in Georgian on Facebook.

"Good morning, Georgia. Already from Georgia in eight years," he wrote on the morning of October 1.

Immediately after the arrest, a video recorded the day before appeared in his Facebook account.

"It is possible that I will be detained in Tbilisi now, but know that we will fight to the last. We are all gathering, a lot of people are coming out, and we are finally winning these elections," said Myho.

Today, Mykhailo Saakashvili is the chairman of the Executive Committee of Reforms of the National Council of Reforms, created under the President of Ukraine. However, apparently, now he will soon return to his duties.

In Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili was sentenced in absentia to 9 years in prison for two criminal cases. He was sentenced to three years in prison for pardoning former employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs convicted in the case of Sandro Girgvliana, and another six years in the case of the beating of former deputy Valery Helashvila. The ex-president was also charged in the case of embezzlement of budget funds and dispersal of protest actions in November 6 and invasion of the Imedy TV channel.
