The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, said that he is using all his capabilities to free Ukrainian citizens and return them to Ukraine, including Ukrainian citizen Mykhailo Saakashvili. This is reported on the official website of the head of state.
"As the president of Ukraine, I am constantly engaged in returning citizens of Ukraine. Using the opportunities that I have, that the government has given me. Mr. Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine, so this also applies to him," the head of state emphasized at a press conference in Truskavets.
According to him, all institutions are involved in this work, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions that work in Georgia, the Georgian ambassador to Ukraine, as well as the prime ministers of the two countries.
Zelensky added that he did not know about Saakashvili's trip to Georgia.
"I was very surprised and saw it in the press. Everything was looking for ego. Then there was a message that he was already in Georgia - that was the first signal about Batumi, and then he was already arrested," he said.
"I did not know about this in advance - about his decision. I think that this is still wrong, because he is in state power. But we need to understand all the details and lines," Zelensky added.
