A new location for tourists: the ancient Alley of Sphinxes was opened in Luxor, Egypt (video)

Three thousand years ago, it was considered a sacred road.

Today, the ancient Alley of Sphinxes was spectacularly opened in the Egyptian city of Luxor. After restoration work, the Alley of Sphinxes connected the temples of Luxor and Karnak for the first time, as it was in the time of the ancient Egyptians.

According to Tourism Minister Khaled El-Enana, Luxor is now the largest open-air museum in the world. He clarified that during the excavations, 250 sphinxes with ram heads and 807 sphinxes with human heads were found. At the same time, in ancient times, there were three times more statues on the alley.

El-Enany added that the work of archaeologists on the Alley of Sphinxes is not yet complete and will continue for several more years.

The length of the Road of the Pharaohs after restoration is 2,7 km. There are 1057 statues on it.

The alley was built during the reign of Pharaoh Nectaneb I (380-362 BC). Earlier, processions of Egyptian pharaohs moved along it, and it also served as the main route for various Egyptian holidays.
