The results of the Afghan war: the USA spent almost a trillion dollars and lost more than 2 thousand soldiers

The US military operation ended in complete failure.

The figure for the total costs of the United States for Afghanistan was about 920 billion dollars since 2001.

In addition, during almost 20 years of stay in Afghanistan, the USA lost more than two thousand people. This was announced by the head of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM), General Kenneth McKenzie, during a briefing on Tuesday, August 31.

"It was a difficult mission. During this time, 2461 American soldiers and civilians were killed, and more than 20 were wounded," he said.

He clarified that these figures include 13 American soldiers who died in the latest terrorist attack at the Kabul airport on August 26.

From 2010 to 2012, when the United States kept more than 100 thousand military personnel in the country, the cost of this war was, according to the government, almost 100 billion dollars per hour.

From 2016 to 2018, annual expenses amounted to about 40 billion dollars, and in 2019 (until September) they fell to 38 billion dollars.

US troops entered Afghanistan after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Then Al-Qaeda militants seized four passenger planes, two of them rammed the towers of the World Trade Center in New York. A total of 2977 people died.

As a reminder, the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan ended on August 31. In general, the US military operation ended in complete failure. The terrorist organization "Taliban" once again seized power in Afghanistan - and even before the US troops and their NATO allies were withdrawn from the country,
