Winter in Ukraine may disappear in 20-25 years - Ukrhydrometeorological center

Due to the warming, this year Ukraine will have the largest harvest in history.

In 20-25 years, winter may no longer exist in Ukraine due to global warming and climate change. Director of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Mykola Kulbida told about it.

"Global warming, of course, could not bypass Ukraine. I will say more, our state belongs to those countries in which it is very noticeable: the average annual temperature has increased by 1,6-1,7 degrees Celsius over the past few years.

In addition, the warm summer period increases by an average of 10-15 days every year, and the winter period decreases. If everything continues like this, it is possible that in 20-25 years there will be no winter in Ukraine at all," he said.

Kulbida said that "this year in Ukraine, there will be the biggest harvest in history, starting with Kievan Rus" thanks to the favorable weather conditions that were at the time of sowing. This year, the biggest harvest of corn and winter crops is expected.

"If we talk about the threats of global warming for the agricultural sector of our state, then they certainly exist, but modern technologies allow us to avoid negative consequences. I think our farmers take this into account, especially large agricultural holdings," added the director of the Ukrhydrometeorological center.
