The price of gas in Europe is breaking absolute records

Already 1200 dollars.

For the first time in history, the price of gas reached almost 1200 dollars per thousand cubic meters. This is evidenced by the data of the London Stock Exchange ICE.

Thus, the price of gas broke the previous historical record.

As of today, October 1, the price of blue fuel has reached 1 dollars per thousand cubic meters or 197 euros per MWh.

In September, the average value of the contract was $759 per thousand cubic meters at the main gas platform in Europe - the TTF hub in the Netherlands.

Consequences for Europe

Europe has already faced the consequences of the gas crisis. In the EU, energy companies and plants have begun to close, and tariffs for the population have also increased.

In Germany, tariffs for the population increased by 11,5% on average. It is predicted that by the end of autumn they may increase by another 13%. And in Great Britain, due to record gas prices, 2 plants for the production of fertilizers have already stopped.

How it can affect Ukraine

In Ukraine, market prices for gas are formed taking into account European prices. That is, they also grow following the TTF index.

Gas prices for Ukrainians should rise, but this is not happening yet. The fact is that the majority of household consumers in Ukraine are served on an annual tariff with a fixed price. However, there are those whose prices rise after the European price. These are users served by monthly tariffs.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the price of gas for the population of Ukraine will not change. In particular, the tariff will remain at the level of the signed annual contract - UAH 7,96 per cubic meter.

According to him, soon the contract will be reviewed and a new contract will be offered for the next hour.

It is worth noting that such price increases this week are associated with low stocks in European underground storage facilities and the refusal of the Russian Gazprom to book additional Ukrainian transit capacity. As a result, it is the Russian monopolist that benefits from the current situation, and Gazprom's shares are growing.
