The Ukrainian flag at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games will be carried by the canoeist Lyudmila Luzan, the owner of two Olympic awards. This was reported by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
The solemn closing ceremony of the Olympics in Tokyo will take place on August 8 at 14:00 Kyiv time.
"For me, this is a great honor. To be honest, I didn't expect it. When I was told about it, I jumped for joy. I want to say that I also did not expect that everything would turn out so well for me in Tokyo, and that I would be able to win two of the two possible Olympic awards for me. Today I will proudly carry the flag of our country. I am looking forward to this moment. This is a bright end to the Tokyo Olympics! I am very happy!" said the athlete.
Let us remind you that at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, 24-year-old Luzan climbed to the podium twice, winning "silver" with her national team partner Anastasia Chetverikova in the 500-meter double canoe and "bronze" in the 200-meter single canoe competition.
Note that Ukrainian athletes won a total of 19 Olympic medals in Tokyo - 1 gold, 6 silver and 12 bronze. Another 23 athletes stopped literally a step away from the podium, took 4-6 places in the final competitions.
