Alexander Roitburd, a famous Ukrainian artist, director of the Odessa Art Museum, deputy of the regional council, died last night at the age of 60.
This was reported by close masters. The same information was confirmed by the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov.
The causes of death have not yet been announced. Meanwhile, the Odessa art museum reported that Roitburd "died due to a long illness."
Alexander Roitburd was born in Odessa in 1961. In 1983, he graduated from the art and graphic faculty of the Odessa Pedagogical Institute.
In 1993, he co-founded the association "New Art" (Odessa). Since 1993, he worked in it as an art director, from 1999 to 2001 - as its president. He worked as the director of the Marat Gelman Gallery in Kyiv. Lived and worked in Kyiv and Odessa.
At the end of 2017, he won the competition for the position of director of the Odessa Art Museum. The deputies of the regional council opposed his candidacy, but in 2018 he was still appointed and held this post until his death. Under him, the museum became one of the most visited in Odessa.
Roitburd had personal exhibitions in Ukraine, the USA, and the EU. His works are in private collections around the world.
