President of Kazakhstan Tokayev proposed to change the country's flag

What is the reason

On March 15, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, offered to consider the issue of changing the coat of arms of his country. He announced this at the third meeting of the National Kurultay in the city of Atyrau in the west of the country, it is reported Radio Svoboda.

According to Tokayev, the current coat of arms, approved in June 1992, is too complex, mixes styles and has elements of the Soviet era.

"Regarding the state coat of arms, I consider it expedient to take into account the reasonable arguments of professionals and concerned citizens, in particular young people, that the coat of arms of Kazakhstan is too difficult to understand, it contains eclecticism (combination of incompatible elements — ed.) and features of the Soviet era," - said Tokaev.

The leader of Kazakhstan added that "in case of general agreement" a special commission can work on the issue, which "will announce an open competition for the best project of the new coat of arms of the Republic of Kazakhstan."
