Oleg Gubar, a well-known local historian, died in Odessa at the age of 68 after a long illness. This was reported by those close to him on social networks.
Complications of the coronavirus infection became the immediate cause of death. In addition, Oleg Gubar struggled with cancer for many years.
He worked in the newspapers "Vechernyaya Odesa", "Odessky Vestnik", "Herald of the Region", and in the magazine "Odessa". Since 2000, he has been a member of the editorial board and publishes the Odessa literary-artistic, historical-local lore almanac "Deribasovskaya — Ryshelievskaya".
Member of the bureau of the historical and local history section "Odessika" Odessa House of Scientists; the presidium of the Odesa branch of the Ukrainian Society for the Preservation of History and Culture; historical, toponymic and park commission of the Odessa City Executive Committee. Honorary member of the World Club of Odessans. Honorary member of the European Interclub "Dom De Rybasa".
Author of many books; publications in magazines of Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Israel.
In 2014, he was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of Odessa" for his services to the city.
