In the Belyaevsky district court, the hearing began cases of attempt on the deputy of the Odesa Regional Council from the "Batkivshchyna" party, the director of the Samson security agency, Andrey Babenko.
Law enforcement officials accuse two people of committing a crime. Another suspect is currently being sought.
Criminal proceedings are opened under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: "Attempted murder, committed in a manner dangerous to the lives of many persons, according to a preliminary agreement" (Part 2 of Article 15 and Clauses 5 and 12 of Part 2 of Article 115) and " Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition and explosives" (Part 1 of Article 263).
The investigators said that the perpetrators had been preparing for the murder for two months, had arranged surveillance of the victim, studying his daily routine and travel routes in detail. They made the explosive device themselves.
During the session on October 6, the court heard all sides of the trial and accepted written evidence for investigation. The next hearing is scheduled for October 11.
As a reminder, the attempt on Babenko took place on October 21, 2020. At that time, the deputy candidate was on his way to a meeting with voters, but a radio-controlled explosive device went off near his car in the village of Kurgan, Belyaevsky district. As a result of the explosion, Babenko was wounded in the head and underwent surgery.
