The SBU detained an ISIL militant in Kyiv

In Ukraine, he created a criminal group that included people from the countries of Central Asia

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv one of the leaders of the international terrorist organization "Islamic State" (ISIL), who is wanted by Interpol. This was reported in the SBU press center.

According to the intelligence service, the criminal is from one of the post-Soviet countries and is a member of the leadership of ISIS terrorists. It has been established that at the time the detainee was a deputy of the well-known Chechen radical Islamist Akhmed Chatayev, who is suspected of organizing a terrorist attack at Ataturk Airport in 2016. The foreigner participated in hostilities on the territory of Syria and Iraq, recruited and trained militants, and organized terrorist attacks.

In 2018, a terrorist illegally arrived in Ukraine using forged documents. In the Kyiv region, he created a criminal group, which included immigrants from the countries of Central Asia. According to operational information, during this time he continued to coordinate ISIS organizations abroad.

The terrorist is currently under arrest for 40 days. Law enforcement officers have started the extradition check procedure.

The SBU is also investigating the possible involvement of an international criminal and members of a criminal group in the preparation of terrorist acts on the territory of Ukraine.
