Apple has signed an agreement with OpenAI to use the startup's technology on the iPhone, which is part of the implementation of artificial intelligence functions on the Apple company's devices. About this reported the Bloomberg with reference to its own sources.
The two companies are finalizing the terms of the agreement to use ChatGPT features in iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system.
The deal with OpenAI will allow Apple to offer the popular chatbot as part of new artificial intelligence features the company plans to announce next month.
Apple also held talks with Google to license the Gemini chatbot. These negotiations did not lead to an agreement, but are still ongoing.
Representatives of Apple, OpenAI and Google declined to comment.
Apple plans to make a splash in the world of artificial intelligence in June when it hosts its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). According to Bloomberg, the company will run some of its future AI features through data centers equipped with its own processors.
Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said last year that he personally uses ChatGPT, but added that there are "a few issues that need to be addressed." He promised that new AI features will appear in Apple products on a "very thoughtful basis."
It is worth noting that the beta version of iOS 2024 will be released first in June 18. Those who register in the testing program will be able to try it. The company traditionally releases the release for all users in the fall — in September during the presentation of the new iPhone 16.
