Health Minister Maksym Stepanov was outraged by the celebration of Dnipro Day, which took place on September 12, despite the quarantine and the COVID-19 epidemic. This was announced during the daily briefing.
Stepanov said that tens of thousands of people gathered at the City Day celebration and called it unacceptable to organize mass events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Today, photos from the Dnipro City Day celebration, where thousands of people gathered, circulated online. Such carelessness of local authorities is infuriating, because they are aware of the risks of COVID-19. I understand that political processes are going on now, but is this how you take and hold concerts and mass events? I'm not even saying that such measures are prohibited by the Cabinet of Ministers. And they are prohibited precisely because they threaten the emergence of new outbreaks of the disease," the minister noted.
He also emphasized that only a few people with COVID-19, who were present at the celebration, can infect hundreds and thousands of people.
"The power of the medical system has a limit. There is a limited number of doctors who are able to provide this assistance. And if someone has forgotten what can happen when the medical system is overloaded and is unable to provide medical assistance in time, then watch footage from the Italian city of Bergamo," the head of the Ministry of Health added.
