Elections in Crimea: Ukraine warned Russia about responsibility

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemns the illegal actions of the Russian Federation in the annexed Crimea

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its resolute protest and condemns the illegal organization and holding by the Russian Federation of the so-called "elections" on September 13 in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and in Sevastopol. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers such actions of the Kremlin to be a continuation of gross violations of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.

"The Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol are temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the legal regime of which is determined by the norms of international humanitarian law. The Russian Federation's conduct of pseudo-elections on the territories of Crimea and Sevastopol is illegitimate, and their results will not have any legal consequences," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.

And they emphasized that the so-called "elections of the governor of Sevastopol" and "elections of deputies" to the so-called "state council of Respublika Krym" and "Simferopol local council" are a gross violation of the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine, as well as the fundamental norms and principles of international law.

All those involved in the preparation and holding of the illegal "voting" in the temporarily occupied Crimea will bear responsibility in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine.

Ukraine has called on foreign countries and international organizations to condemn the illegal actions of the Russian Federation and clearly declare its non-recognition of the results of the so-called "elections" in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as to increase political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation, including by expanding sanctions .
