The European Union will lift sanctions against former minister Klymenko

Due to insufficient evidence base.

Ex-Minister of Revenue and Taxation of Ukraine Oleksandr Klymenko will be excluded from the EU sanctions list, which he was on since 2014. This is reported by Radio Svoboda.

"Next week, the EU intends to exclude the former Minister of Revenue and Collections of Ukraine Oleksandr Klymenko from the list of sanctions introduced for embezzlement of state funds of Ukraine," the publication notes.

The European Union is taking such steps because of the insufficient evidence base of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies against Klymenko and other officials of Yanukovych's time. Recently, the EU has begun to lift sanctions against Yanukovych-era officials.

Now, of the 18 people who were sanctioned in 2014, only 7 remain on the list, including Yanukovych himself. Former Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov was recently removed from the sanctions list.
