Ukrainian Oksana Lyniv will become the first female conductor of the prestigious Bayreuth Festival of Classical Music in Germany for the first time in its more than a hundred year history. She announced this on her Facebook page.

"There are no words to explain what I'm feeling now - it's finally officially announced - my debut as the first female conductor at the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth with the premiere of "The Flying Dutchman" in 2021," she wrote.

On the website of the festival, it was noted that since 1876, the mission of the conductor at the festival was assigned to 92 men.

Information: The Bayreuth Festival is an annual summer event where musicians perform works by Richard Wagner. It was founded by the composer himself. The first festival took place on August 13, 1876. Since 1951, it has been held in a theater specially built for this purpose. The Bayreuth Festival is managed by the heirs of the German composer.
