A counter-intelligence officer of the SBU refereed football matches instead of business trips

If proven guilty, he faces up to seven years in prison

Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation sent criminal proceedings to the court on the charge of an employee of the Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the Department of Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine that he arbitrarily left his post during official business trips in order to be a referee at football matches. He writes about it Tsenzor.NET.

As Yaroslav Lyoshenko, the head of the Department for the Investigation of War Criminals of the Main Investigation Department of the GBR, said, during 2018-2019, this SBU employee was sent to the regions to provide methodological and practical assistance in carrying out work on technical information protection.

"But he, believing that the management will not check and monitor his actual presence on business trips, went to other cities of Ukraine on his own more than 10 times, where he took a direct part in the refereeing of football matches as an arbitrator," he said.

Law enforcement officials informed an employee of the military counterintelligence about the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Evasion from military service). In the case of proof of guilt, the accused faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 7 years.
