In Ukraine, 370 thousand 2 candidates registered for the positions of mayors of 814 cities. This was reported by the Committee of Voters of Ukraine.
Thus, at the next local elections on October 25, an average of seven candidates will compete for the post of one mayor.
The mayor's office has the most candidates in Odesa (23 candidates), Uzhhorod (22 candidates) and Kyiv (20 candidates). There are fewer applicants for the post of mayor in Ternopil (9 candidates), Chernihiv (7 candidates) and Ivano-Frankivsk (5 candidates).
In the Luhansk region, there are an average of 22 candidates for the position of one mayor. There is also a significant number of applicants for the position of mayor in Zhytomyr (an average of 10 candidates), Cherkassy and Dnipropetrovsk regions (9 candidates each). The least competition is in Chernihiv region (5 candidates for one seat) and Khmelnytsky region (4 candidates each).
Compared to the next local elections in 2015, the total number of candidates has almost not changed - seven people per seat (2 candidates for the positions of 722 mayors). However, a significant difference can be observed in individual cities.
Thus, compared to the last elections, the number of applicants for the post of mayor of Kyiv decreased (from 28 people in 2015 to 20 people in 2020), Dnipro (from 31 to 17 candidates), Odessa (from 42 to 23 candidates), Zaporozhye ( from 26 to 10), Chernihiv (from 16 to 7), Sumy (from 14 to 10 candidates). However, the number of applicants for the mayor's chair of Lviv (from 11 to 17), Kharkiv (from 11 to 15) and Rivne (from 11 to 16) increased.
