The petition received more than 26 votes among Ukrainians

In Ukraine, a petition in support of the introduction of registered partnerships for same-sex and opposite-sex couples received the required "maximum" of votes. Previously, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had already registered the corresponding law regulating the introduction of such partnerships (draft law No. 9103).

The petition was registered on March 28, today it became known that on site petition received more than 26 votes. This means that now it must be considered directly by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

The authors of the petition argue their appeal by the fact that LGBT representatives, who also defend Ukraine in the war, are deprived of the right to officially register their relations with people with whom they are in partnership.

"This problem has existed in Ukraine since independence, but after the full-scale invasion of Russia on February 24, 2022, it only intensified, because Ukrainian men and women are in danger every day, both civilians and military. Couples who are unwilling or unable to marry do not have the same rights as married couples. In particular, this applies to same-sex couples, including LGBT+ military couples," the author of the petition notes, talking about specific cases as an example.

Recall that that in the document, the author of the petition calls on the president to support the introduction of same-sex partnerships in Ukraine not only for the reasons of supporting the movement itself, but also because at the legislative level certain decisions in relations can be made only by the official partner.

The signatories and authors ask the President for the following:

  • Publicly support the introduction of same-sex partnerships in Ukraine and draft law No. 9103 "On the Institute of Registered Partnerships", which introduces partnerships for same-sex and opposite-sex couples;
  • Appeal to the Verkhovna Rada and the specialized committee with a request to support draft law No. 9103;
  • To appeal to the deputies of the "Servant of the People" faction to vote and support draft law No. 9103;
  • Contribute to the adoption of draft law No. 9103 and sign it afterwards.
