Ukrainian negotiations with Iran: drones were sold to Russia even before the war

Iran

In the Iranian edition Amwaj.media for the first time since the beginning of the war, material on possible negotiations between representatives of the Ukrainian and Iranian governments has been published.

In the article published on February 15, it is noted that "the Ukrainians have provided evidence of the use of Iranian-made drones in the war in Ukraine," writes Amwaj.media citing a senior Iranian source, highlighting a meeting in Oman last November, "Iran received evidence and said that drones were sold to Russia even before the war».

Confirming that talks between Ukraine and Iran did indeed take place in November 2022, a diplomatic source claims that an Iranian delegation told Ukrainian officials that the drones used by Russia in the war in Ukraine are in fact exact copies of Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles. Tehran publicly denies any arms exports for use in the conflict.

The Iranian-Ukrainian dialogue has so far been held at the "expert and technical level", a high-ranking official in Tehran told Amwaj.media, clarifying that Tehran sent representatives from several state organizations to the negotiations - "the delegation included both civilian and military representatives of several organizations" .

Also, on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, a high-ranking political source in the Iranian capital confirmed that the "military" are involved in the dialogue in Oman. If true, the latter may indicate that Tehran is sincere in its desire to engage with Kyiv, although the motives may be multifaceted.

The participants of that meeting allegedly agreed that such contacts should be continued, but insiders interviewed by journalists do not see their prospects in the same way. Some believe that this is the beginning of some kind of greater cooperation, while others believe that nothing sensational happened and the parties only "outlined their positions and did not hold any substantive negotiations."

The publication Amwaj.media was created by an Iranian citizen Muhammad Ali-Shabani, who has long lived in London (the publication itself, as written on their website, is located there), but he is a professional journalist and has also long wanted to occupy the niche of an insider of Iranian politics, which is in demand in the West, therefore, frank fakes are unlikely to be published.
