Zelenskyi about F-16 aircraft: "We are grateful to the USA"

At a personal meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, American leader Joe Biden announced the US plans to start training Ukrainian pilots for fourth-generation fighters, including the F-16.

Continuing this topic on press conference, Joe Biden said the group of industrialized economies was going to "continue to provide humanitarian and security assistance to Ukraine so that it can remain strong for as long as it needs to."

Today, he said, the US "announced our latest tranche of artillery, ammunition, anti-tank weapons and bridging equipment to help Ukraine succeed on the battlefield."

According to Biden, he has "absolute confidence" that Ukraine will not use the F-16 to strike Russia

Addressing the media at the end of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, President Joe Biden said he had received "categorical assurances" from Volodymyr Zelenskyi that Ukrainian forces would not use Western-provided F-16 fighter jets to strike Russian territory, but they could be used "wherever they are Russian troops in Ukraine".

This move by Biden was also welcomed by Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark.

Zelenskyi about F-16 aircraft: "We are grateful to the USA"

Regarding the acquisition of new F-16 fighter jets from the US and its allies, Zelenskyi said: "Yes, we have indeed worked politically with our partners for a long time to get the desired result in strengthening our skies."

Zelenskyy noted that it is important for Ukraine to already have pilot training, so that they are "as experienced and more trained as possible, with a lot of experience, to reduce this training process" for the new F-16 aircraft.

He added that he cannot yet say how many planes Ukraine will receive. "It's not a secret. I really don't know," — Zelenskyi.

The President of Ukraine said that "it is very difficult to solve this crisis if we are alone", so he is "so glad" to receive support from the G7 countries.

Regarding receiving arms from other states, he said: “Yes, I would very much like that. I would like any states that are able to help us to help us."
