For Russia, an important task now is to freeze the war in Ukraine as soon as possible in order to keep the captured territories under its control and accumulate resources for the next expansion. For these purposes, she chose a scenario that includes spreading the idea of peace negotiations among Ukraine's international partners, with the help of relaying these narratives in the mass media, through some "experts", "activists" and holding "pacifist" events.
This is written by Oleksandr Kovalenko, a military-political columnist of the "Information Resistance" group, in a series of his analytical materials.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time for Russia to use calls for "peace" to achieve its revanchist and expansionist goals and to prepare for a new war. Since the times of the USSR, a pool of bought and loyal pacifist organizations has been formed in Western countries.
Now it is vitally important for Russia to put Ukraine on the negotiating table, of course, on its own terms, in order to freeze the war. Therefore, it used a large-scale pacifist resource in Europe for these purposes. The apogee of this activity should be the "International Summit for Peace in Ukraine", which will be held in Vienna, the capital of Austria, from June 10 to 11.
The purpose of this summit is to adopt an urgent global appeal entitled "Vienna Declaration of Peace", which will call on the world's political leaders to take immediate measures to support a ceasefire and peace talks to resolve the "situation" in Ukraine.
This event will be held by the oldest organization "International Peace Bureau".
At first glance, it seems that this is a respected pacifist structure, created in the very distant year 1891 and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1910 for its work. And one of the leaders of this organization, Sean McBride, was also a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
But Sean McBride was a member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and actively cooperated with Soviet intelligence, passing information about the British army to the USSR. In 1975, this figure was awarded the Lenin International Peace Prize.
In the 1980s, US intelligence included the International Peace Bureau among organizations that worked for the USSR.
To date, it is known about some participants and organizations invited to the event. In particular, the first word will be given to so-and-so Noam Chomsky and the president of Brazil To Luis Lula Da Silva.
Noam Chomsky is known for justifying the occupation of Crimea in 2014, calling it "historically Russian" and calling for the "federalization" of Ukraine! And recently, he criticizes the US support for Ukraine and threatens the Americans with the Third World and nuclear war if this support continues.
Such measures, by the way, are also good because they gather all the Russian agents in one place at once, and it is much easier to compile lists of members of this network. A note to our European partners, so to speak.
Details of every organization that assists Russia in spreading "pacifist" narratives in Europe and not only below.
Let's probably start with "Austrian Division of the International Society for Reconciliation" (International Fellowship of Reconciliation Austria).
This organization was founded in 1914 and its main goal is to achieve the complete rejection of humanity from the use of violence. Not working very well somehow, are they? This organization has the status of an observer and consultant in the organizations of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and UNESCO. For us, it should be notable for the fact that from 2022 to 2023 it actively supports statements regarding evasion of mobilization in Ukraine. In other words, he indulges and encourages evaders with his activities.
He also participates in the organization of this event "Austrian branch of the International Women's League for Peace and Freedom" (English Women's International League for Peace and Freedom Austria). It has existed since 1915, during the Cold War it actively engaged in blocking the development of nuclear weapons in the USA and organized tourist trips for Soviet citizens. I think there is no need to explain who in that period could freely leave the USSR as a "tourist".
After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the organization actively helps Ukrainian refugees, primarily women, but at the same time regularly calls for an unconditional cessation of hostilities.
An organization with a very long name "Alliance of actions for peace, active neutrality and nonviolence" (German: Aktionsbündnis Frieden, aktive Neutralität & Gewaltfreiheit) openly belongs to the left. This organization has held marches for the end of material and technical aid to Ukraine, regularly opposes the introduction of sanctions against Russia and calls for their cancellation, and is also a platform for spreading pro-Russian narratives. In particular, this organization distributes statements Rainer Brian, known for calling the Revolution of Dignity a putsch and an Austrian theologian Alfred Rachek, who believes that NATO and the USA, which organized... the Orange Revolution, are to blame for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Most interestingly, the "Alliance for Action for Peace, Active Neutrality and Nonviolence" is financed, it cannot be, by the "Communist Party of Austria" and the network "transform!europe!"
That is, a very impartial organization, whose members cannot sleep at night, thinking about peace in Ukraine!
And now the most interesting thing is who finances the "International Summit for Peace in Ukraine"? After all, the wallets of this event are, in fact, the financial linings of Russia in Europe.
The "Union of Trade Unions of Austria" (German: Österreichischer Gewerkschaftsbund) has existed since 1945. The head of this organization, Wolfgang Katzian, as a parliamentarian of Austria, was a member of the parliamentary group "Austria-Russia", which promotes the strengthening of friendly and economic ties with Russia. In 2018, this organization adopted a 5-year program of cooperation and dialogue with Russia.
The most interesting thing is that in the past Wolfgang Katzian also managed the football club "Austria", one of whose sponsors was the Russian "Gazprom"! After some time, Katzian joined the management of the Austrian-Russian Friendship Community, which was financed by the Russian intelligence services through Jan Masalek.
Code Pink: Women for Peace (CODEPINK) is an American non-governmental feminist organization that allegedly advocates "peace and social justice." How exactly does she act? And quite predictable.
"Code Pink: Women for Peace" accuses the USA of financing wars around the world, calls for disarmament, supports the idea of orienting world politics to the East. As for Ukraine, the organization declares the US guilty of a full-scale war, in addition, it calls the Revolution of Dignity a "fascist coup" and the occupation of Crimea "legitimate."
The most interesting thing is that the organization has never published information about the sources of its funding.
"Rosa Luxemburg Foundation" (English Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation). Since 2014, this fund has regularly spread narratives that there is a "civil war" in Ukraine, Kyiv is not fulfilling the Minsk agreements, and Russia wants peace. In 2022, the rhetoric changed somewhat, focusing more on the peaceful settlement of the "conflict". Of course, this party is left-wing and openly Marxist.
Another financial organizer of the event is "transform! europe!". This Eurosceptic organization was founded in 2001 and did not hide its left orientation. Financing is carried out through the party funds of the Communist Party of Austria, the Communist Party of France, the Catalan left-wing party Esquerra Unida i Alternativa and other European left-wing parties.
Here is a set of organizations for this event. It is not difficult to determine the color, but the main thing is to mark each of them and, in my opinion, prevent their activities and attempts to integrate into Ukraine.
Now let's talk about the speakers of this summit.
I will probably start with Leo Gabriel. A citizen of Austria, who positions himself as a social anthropologist, journalist and documentary filmmaker, "researcher" of Latin America. He "researched" Latin America from 1979 to 1996, living in Nicaragua, where, by sheer coincidence, the Sandinistas, who are actively supported by the USSR, arrived during this period.
In 2004, he stood for election to the European Parliament from the German pro-Russian party "Left", which now actively opposes the provision of aid to Ukraine.
In May 2022, at the height of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Andriy Kochetov, a war criminal from the so-called "LPR", was the moderator of the World Social Forum.
Actually, this is the character who will fight for "peace" for Ukraine. But, this is only the beginning. The next ones are no better.
Asya Hagieva (Hagiyeva Eset Zyaudinovna), a citizen of Russia, the daughter of an active figure of "United Russia". A lover of the epistolary genre, she writes notes and articles not only under her real name, but also under the pseudonym "Maruket".
Since 2012, she has started a typical career for a daughter of a single Russian, but in 2022 she sharply changes her views, starting to speak out against the war in Ukraine, although in the same 2022 she actively published on the "islam.ru" resource, which is located under the control of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Dagestan, which supports "its".
It is actively integrated into the "pacifist" environment precisely through the "International Peace Bureau".
Shelyazhenko Yury Vadimovych, I think many people know very well, because this, unfortunately, citizen of Ukraine, managed to leave many traces.
In 2007-2014, working as an assistant to Pechersk District Council deputy Hryhoriy Kostynskyi from BYU and assistant to People's Deputy from BYU Andriy Pavlovsky, he played the role of a media killer. From 2009 to 2022, he regularly wrote for the Russian publication Ekho Moskvy, known as a pseudo-liberal mass media controlled by the Russian regime. In 2015, he spoke out against mobilization, and in 2017, he prevented the blocking of Russian social networks. Recently, he positions himself as the executive secretary of the Pacifist Movement of Ukraine.
He held the United States responsible for the full-scale invasion of Ukraine and actively lobbied for the "Christmas truce" of the Russian IPSG. In 2022, he received the award named after McBride (the same one who worked for the special services of the USSR) from the International Peace Bureau.
By the way, Asya Hagiyeva also became a laureate of this award in 2022.
Brown Rainer, executive director of the International Peace Bureau. Positions himself as one of the ideologues of the "Krefelder Petition", which was created in 1980 by the "pacifists" of West Germany with the aim of not deploying NATO Pershing-II missiles. The German scientist Gerhard Kade, who was a KGB agent with the pseudonym "Robust", also participated in the organization of this petition. Rainer Braun tried in every way to hide his connection with the KGB, but the manuscripts do not burn.
Since 2014, Brown has been participating in the organization against the sanctions policy of the German government towards Russia, created a petition demanding that Russia's "safe interests" be taken into account. Over the past 8 years, he has integrated fringe neo-Nazi forces into the pacifist movement, causing conflict between him and left-wing groups. During this period, he organized the "Stopp Ramstein" action, the goal of which was to close the US air base "Ramstein" in Germany. He called the Revolution of Dignity a putsch, and the occupation of Crimea a reaction to NATO provocations.
Radchenko Karina Viktorivna. A native of Kramatorsk, who graduated from the Institute of International Relations of KNU, is currently studying at the University of Salzburg and is clearly aiming for a job at the UN. She is interesting in that she was not noticed in clear contacts with agents of Russian influence, but there is a nuance.
You can, of course, not shake hands with Naryshkin or Bortnikov and drink with them at the same table, but if you participate in an event that is held with the money of the Russian special services, is this not already a contact?
Karina Radchenko is from just such a category. She cannot be directly accused of working for the enemy, but in February 2023 she already participated in an event of the "International Peace Bureau" together with Yury Shelyazhenko, at which she made statements about the need for a truce.
That is, systematic participation in the activities of a structure controlled by the Russian special services, in the campaign of Russian agents of influence, does this not make you an agent of influence yourself, or is it something else? And how do you think?
Oleg Viktorovych Bodrov. The 28-year-old Russian physicist, from 1988 to 2016, was a member and head of the Green World environmental organization in St. Petersburg, which opposed nuclear energy. Currently, she is the head of the "Public Council of the Southern Shore of the Gulf of Finland", which does not prevent her from continuing to oppose nuclear energy. He calls the war in Ukraine "conflict, political turbulence."
Werner Wintersteiner. Austrian teacher, head of the public organization "Alpen-Adria-Alternativ", which aims to unite pacifist movements in the area between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea.
In the period from 2020 to 2022, he worked at the Austrian Peace Institute, and this moment should be given special attention.
The fact is that at the institute Wintersteiner was responsible for the Heimatland Erde project, which involved the Russian scientist Elena Knyazeva. This person works at the University of the Higher School of Economics, which was considered oppositional. In 2022, when a full-scale war began, a large part of the HSE teachers resigned, but Knyazeva remained. After some time, all information about the Heimatland project was removed from the website of the Austrian World Institute.
Potarska Nina Nikolaevna. Coordinator of the "International League of Women for Peace and Freedom" in Ukraine.
Has been in contact with Leo Gabriel since 2011. In 2015, she conducted some research in the temporarily occupied territories. On the eve of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, she participated in the Stop NATO Expansion event. Then she placed responsibility for the war in Ukraine, including on the USA.
Michael Von Der Schulenburg. A German diplomat of count blood. He worked in the UN and OSCE institutes. Through his personal website, he actively promotes narratives about the guilt of the USA and NATO in the war in Ukraine, calls the Revolution of Dignity a "coup" organized by the USA, and also opposes the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Zaira Zafarana. An Italian woman who worked in the International Society for Reconciliation, including in the representative office at the UN institutions in Geneva. But she should be interesting to us as a defender, unfortunately, of a citizen of Ukraine, Ruslan Kotsaba, who was the leader of the aforementioned Shelyazhenko in the Pacifist Movement of Ukraine.
Since 2015, Kotsaba has regularly made statements denying the Russian invasion of Ukraine, obstructed mobilization, and fled to the United States in 2022, saying that he could be killed in Ukraine.
Zafarana demanded the termination of criminal proceedings against Kotsaba, who is suspected of treason, and also demanded the release of Vitaly Alexienko, who was convicted for refusing to mobilize. This case was actively promoted by Russian propaganda, and Zafarana gave an interview to the Austrian world researcher Josef Muelbaur, who wrote a book together with Leo Gabriel.
In fact, these are the "pacifists" who will defend "peace" for Ukraine in Vienna in June. Of course, there is nowhere to put a stamp on all of them, but still, it is obvious that Russia is starting a large-scale campaign to promote the ideas of a truce, and its goal is to unite all pocket and not yet bought organizations to create an appropriate wave.
Previously, Russia did not manage to hold such events with such a large number of involved organizations and speakers. And this is alarming. After all, in this way, the Kremlin is trying to bring the topic of reconciliation into the trends and change the agenda from a military one - military aid to Ukraine, to a pacifist one.
Although, on the other hand, thanks to such measures, it is easier to systematize and keep track of sales figures bought by Russia.
