NASA reported that 50% of the astronauts selected to participate in the training program as part of the Artemis project to prepare for flights to the Moon are women. This is reported by "Voice of America«.
"The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) named the 18 astronauts — half of whom are women — selected for the training program to land on the surface of the moon as part of the Artemis project. The first woman in the world to visit the Moon will be chosen from the members of this elite group," the message says.
It is noted that US Vice President Mike Pence introduced the astronauts on Wednesday at the end of the last meeting he held as the head of the US National Space Council.
The head of NASA, Jim Bridenstine, emphasized that the number of participants in the training program will definitely be replenished. Now there are 47 astronauts working at NASA.
"The space agency plans to fly to the moon no later than 2024, although the chances of this are becoming less and less. The upcoming change of administration adds to the uncertainty," the mass media reported.
It is indicated that half of NASA astronauts have previously been in space. Two of them, Kate Rubins and Victor Glover, are now on board the International Space Station. The age of most participants in the training group is 30 to 40 years old, the oldest participant is 55 years old, the youngest is 32.
