The Ministry of Health of Ukraine expects to reduce the number of patients with COVID-19 by 40-50% after the introduction of strict quarantine, the head of the department Maksym Stepanov said during a press briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.
"Citizens are mostly infected at mass events where the mask regime is not observed. What effect do we expect? If we are talking about the lockdowns that are being introduced in European countries, then in three weeks the number of sick people is reduced to 80%, we expect to reduce the number of sick people by 40-50%," he said.
In his turn, Deputy Minister of Health — Chief State Sanitary Doctor Viktor Lyashko noted that people over 19 years of age, as well as people with concomitant diseases, are most often affected by COVID-50.
"21,6% of those infected with COVID-19 are aged 50-59 years. The highest percentage of fatal cases from the coronavirus disease in the age group of 60-69 years — 31,1%. People with concomitant diseases suffer the most," he said.
