In Ukraine, they want to introduce a tax on sweet carbonated drinks

WHO: an increase in the price of sweet drinks even by 20% leads to a decrease in their consumption.

In Ukraine, they want to introduce a tax on sweet carbonated drinks. With this decision, the government wants to reduce the consumption of these drinks by the younger generation. The head of the Parliamentary Committee on the Health of the Nation, Mikhail Radutsky, made such an initiative.

This is done in order to reduce the incidence of diabetes and other ailments.

According to Radutsky, excessive consumption of sweet carbonated drinks causes irreparable harm to the body. Adults who are lenient with children's fascination with sweet drinks underestimate this harm.

Meanwhile, diabetes, cardiovascular and endocrine diseases are getting younger every year. Moreover, according to doctors, 80% of these diseases could have been prevented if people had asked the right questions.

"Unlike sugar from food, sugar from drinks (especially carbonated) is absorbed too quickly, which overloads our pancreas and liver, which eventually leads to the development of diabetes, cardiovascular system disorders, damage to blood vessels, obesity, disease gastrointestinal tract," writes Mikhail Radutsky on his Facebook.

He emphasized that every year more and more countries of the world introduce a special tax. The list of countries in which such a tax exists includes more than 65 states. In addition, Kazakhstan and Israel recently joined them. Radutsky noted that in Israel such a tax will begin to operate from next year.

"According to the WHO report, an increase in the price of sweet drinks by even 20% leads to a decrease in their consumption and promotes the transition of consumers to healthier alternatives," he added.
