Ukraine received 60 thousand courses of the drug "Molnupiravir" intended for the treatment of COVID-19. Its manufacturer is the American pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp&Dohme. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
"We started work on the contracting of Molnupiravir back in November, during the preparation for the next wave of COVID-19," noted Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko. - Now this medicine will help us in the fight against the disease and save the lives of patients from risk groups. I am grateful to my colleagues and partners for their prompt work and the purchase of this drug."
In the near future, the Ministry of Health will distribute the medicine and send it to the regions. By April, another 240 will arrive in Ukraine. drug courses.
First of all, this medicine will be prescribed to patients from risk groups in order to protect patients from the transition from mild to moderate to severe.
"Molnupiravir" is a direct-acting drug that blocks the enzyme needed by the virus to reproduce its genetic code, which prevents the virus from multiplying and reduces the risk of severe disease. The drug is produced in the form of tablets, has no special storage requirements and is convenient to take.
"Molnupiravir" is registered and approved for emergency use in the USA, Japan, Great Britain and other countries.
