More than 80% of those who died from COVID-19 in Ukraine are people over 60 years old

More than 80% of all those who died from COVID-19 in Ukraine are people over 60 years old, the Ministry of Health reported.

As of August 14, 2021, 53 people have died from the coronavirus, of which 255 are aged 43+.

"This is another evidence that the elderly are at high risk of the coronavirus disease. The older the person, the higher the risk," the ministry notes.

The share of people aged 60-69 among the deceased is 29% (15 people), and people aged 533 and over — 70% (52).

"The only way to protect yourself from severe disease and death from COVID-19 is vaccination. Vaccination against COVID-19 in Ukraine is free and voluntary," the Ministry of Health reminds and adds that the effectiveness of all vaccines used in Ukraine in preventing hospitalization and death is higher than 90%.

The drugs have also been tested for safety and effectiveness and are approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use.
