Earthquake in southwest China - at least 65 people died

At least 65 people were killed in an earthquake in Sichuan province in southwestern China.

At least 6,8 people have died as a result of a 65-magnitude earthquake in Sichuan province in southwestern China.

Rescuers found 37 bodies of the dead in the Gardze-Tibet Autonomous District, 12 more people are considered missing. 28 people died in Ya'an city district. Also, 248 residents of these areas were injured, a quarter of whom suffered serious injuries.

As a result of the natural disaster in Sichuan province, roads, power lines and communication infrastructure were damaged. The search for people under the rubble continues.

The night before, the Sichuan authorities temporarily evacuated 50 people. The Chinese government allocated 50 million yuan (about 7,25 million dollars) for rescue work and elimination of the consequences of the earthquake.

More than 1,1 million people live in the Gardze-Tibetan Autonomous District, where powerful earthquakes were recorded. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Ludin district at a depth of 16 km.
