They are accused of raising gas prices

The investigative and operational group detained the Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Zhumabay Karagaev, the heads of electronic trading platforms and persons involved in the unjustified increase in prices for liquefied petroleum gas in the Mangystau region. This was reported in the press service of the Financial Monitoring Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In relation to Karagaev, the court decision sanctioned the measure of restraint chosen by the investigative body and supported by the regional prosecutor's office in the form of "detention" for a period of two months.

"The investigation is ongoing. Other information in the interests of the investigation is not subject to disclosure," the message reads.

It will be recalled that protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2, when hundreds of residents of the oil city of Zhanaozen went to the building of the akimat, protesting against the increase in prices for liquefied gas. In the future protests also began in other cities. By January 4, the total number of protesters reached approximately 10. man

On January 5, the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokaev dismissed the government. He also instructed the antimonopoly body to introduce state price regulation for liquefied gas, gasoline, and diesel for 180 days.

In the evening of January 5, Tokaev announced the "terrorist threat" in Kazakhstan and asked for help from the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which, apart from Kazakhstan, includes Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. To suppress the protests, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan sent their troops to Kazakhstan.
