The earthquake was felt throughout Croatia, as well as in neighboring countries — in particular, in Slovenia and Austria. The mayor of Petrinya (the city that suffered the most from the earthquakes), Darinko Dumbovych, asked for urgent help. "We are pulling people out of cars. We do not know whether there were victims. I heard that the kindergarten collapsed, but, fortunately, there were no children in it... People are panicking and looking for their loved ones," Dumbovych said.

He added that he had spoken with Prime Minister Andrey Plenkovich and stated that the latter immediately went to Petrinya.

In addition, as a precautionary measure, the Slovenian authorities shut down the Krsko nuclear power plant, the only one operating in the country, after an earthquake was recorded on the territory of neighboring Croatia, reports the AFP news agency on Twitter.

According to the assessment of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake became the strongest in the country for this hour. Seismologists warn that shocks of such force can lead to significant destruction near the epicenter.
