Kazakhstan is ready to increase oil supplies to the EU

Tokayev

The President of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, proposed to Germany to increase the rate of oil supply from 200 tons per year to 1,2 million tons. Thus, he proposes to replace the Russian oil, which has fallen under the embargo of the European Union. About this Tokaev said at the "Central Asia - European Union" summit.

In five months of 2023, Kazakhstan sent 90 tons of raw materials to the Schwedt oil refinery in Germany, which belonged to Rosneft before the war. At this rate, Kazakhstan will be able to deliver 200 tons of oil to Germany by the end of the year. But Kazakhstan, according to Tokayev, is ready to increase supplies at least six times.

"There is potential to increase this figure to 1,2 million tons per year, with the possibility of increasing it in the future," said the President of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan has generally increased the supply of oil to the European Union in 2023. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, Kazakhstan exported 71% of its oil to the EU in the first quarter, compared to 65% in the same period last year.

In addition to Germany, Kazakhstani oil is actively purchased by Italy, which was supplied by Lukoil before the full-scale war in Ukraine: the supply of Kazakh oil to Italy increased in the first quarter to 38% of the total volume of exports, last year the share was 28%. The share of Kazakh oil exports to France increased from 5% to 7%, Romania - from 4% to 7%.

At the same time, as the Russian mass media reported in January, Germany received 2022 million tons of oil from the Russian Federation in 1. If Kazakhstan increases supplies according to the planned plan, then they can completely replace Russian ones.

However, Kazakh oil reaches Germany through Russia - via the Druzhba oil pipeline - and increasing supplies to Kazakhstan requires permission from the Ministry of Energy of the aggressor country, which has so far only been received verbally.

By the way, the Russian Federation will again reduce oil production next year.

It should be noted that deliveries of Russian oil to international markets are gaining momentum. Since almost all Russian oil goes to China and India, the volume of supplies to Asia has also risen to a new peak - the Russian Federation is increasing the supply of oil by sea.

As you know, the Russian economy has proved to be quite stable despite the sanctions. In part, this can be explained by the active trade in energy resources with China and India: other markets for the Russian Federation almost closed, while India and China took advantage of the crazy discounts offered by Russia. Another explanation for why the Russian economy is still afloat is that the sanctions were introduced throughout the year and it takes time for their effect to become noticeable.
