The European Commission signed the fifth contract for the supply of a potential vaccine against the coronavirus infection. The total number of reserved doses from different manufacturers reached 2 billion.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced this on Twitter on Monday.
She said that today the European Commission signed a contract for the supply of a vaccine with the German pharmaceutical company "CureVac".
In addition, she expressed hope that vaccines will be available by the end of the year.
"The Europeans will be able to get them as soon as they prove to be safe and effective - hopefully by the end of the year!" Von der Leyen noted.
