Starting in 2024, new rules will apply to the selection of films that are candidates for the Oscar award in the Best Film category. The corresponding decision was made by the American Academy of Arts, it is reported on the organization's website.
So that a picture can claim the title of the best film of the year, it must meet at least two of the four criteria presented by the Academy. In particular, one of the actors of the first or second plan must necessarily be a representative of racial or ethnic minorities. If this condition cannot be fulfilled, then at least a third of the rest of the troupe must be women, representatives of racial and ethnic minorities, LGBT or people with disabilities.
It is interesting that the same requirements will be applied to creative and technical personnel: directors, screenwriters, composers, producers, and so on. The fourth requirement is that interns and interns from the named groups should be involved in the work on the film.
The film academy explained the new rules on the fact that they are aimed at combating the oppression of representatives of the specified groups of people, as well as women.
