The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, assures that there are no problems with funds in the Fund for the fight against the coronavirus and its consequences. Hospitals are now preparing for an increase in the number of patients with a severe course of COVID-19. This is reported on the official website of the head of state.
Zelensky focused attention on the growing number of people infected with the coronavirus and the rapid filling of hospitals with patients requiring hospitalization.
"There are big problems with the number of beds, I mean the rapid filling of beds... But I still believe that it will not be to the extent that it was, for example, in most European countries," the president noted.
He emphasized that the consequences of people's frivolous attitude to the COVID-19 epidemic "will correct the whole country."
"Despite this, we are preparing many hospitals due to the increase in the number of patients - those who are already being taken to hospitals. Hospitals are being enlarged and reequipped. There are no problems with technical means, oxygen, ventilation. I don't want to say that there is enough for everyone, but at least we are ready," Zelensky said.
According to the head of state, funds were diverted from many other budget programs to fill the COVID fund. This was done in order to have a resource to fight the epidemic, the scale of which was difficult to predict at first. However, the government did not rule out that later part of these funds will be directed to other budget programs. In particular, we are talking about important infrastructure projects.
"A lot of money has been spent on roads that go to support hospitals, reception departments or schools, and this should be done. In any case, it's all connected," the president said.
Zelensky noted that the need for financing to fight the pandemic exists, but it is controllable.
"The main thing we spent on is that we have been spending billions from the COVID fund every month from the very beginning to support people: pensioners, people who do not receive wages. State enterprises during the (pandemic. - Ed.) period of COVID-19 also receive wages, miners receive wages, when almost everything in the world is now at a standstill," the head of state added.
