The Cabinet of Ministers established minimum retail prices for large plastic bags, which will come into force on February 1, 2022. This was reported in the Ministry of Economy.
According to the resolution, the minimum retail prices for such packages, intended for packaging and transportation of goods and products in retail outlets, public catering and the service sector, will be:
- UAH 2,00 – package without handles and side folds;
- UAH 2,50 – a bag without handles but with side folds or with handles without side folds;
- UAH 3,00 – a package with handles and side folds.
In addition, from March 10, 2022, it is planned to ban the distribution of ultra-thin, thin and oxidizing plastic bags in shops and public catering establishments.
The Cabinet of Ministers believes that this will limit the turnover of plastic bags and improve the ecological situation in the country.
"Each Ukrainian uses an average of 500 plastic bags annually. They last only a few minutes, and then decompose for more than a century, polluting the environment. The approval of minimum retail prices for plastic bags will encourage citizens to use reusable ecological bags and will protect the environment and people's health from the harmful effects of microplastics," said First Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Denys Kudyn.
