Residents of the Rivne region were warned about the possibility of acid rain after yesterday's accident at the Rivnoazot enterprise. There, in the workshop for the production of nitric acid, a depressurization of the pipeline with nitrous gases occurred, and a cloud of red smoke covered the garden.
At the same time the Ukrhydrometeorological center believes that there is no particular danger for the population and the environment.
"Obviously, the nitrogen cloud still got into the atmosphere and gradually spread and settled locally, not spreading to a long distance from the place of emission, thanks to the weather conditions in the Rivne region during the past days," say meteorologists.
At the same time, they believe that a certain amount of nitrogen oxide was dissolved in atmospheric water.
"Therefore, in some areas of the Rovenen region today, one should not "swim" in the rain, but still protect oneself from possible acid rain with an umbrella," the message says.
