A large-scale forest fire occurred in the Dvurechan district of the Kharkiv region - the fire spread over 80 hectares. This was stated in the press service of the State Emergency Service on Wednesday, September 2.
"On September 2, at 12:55 p.m., number 101 received a report about a fire in the coniferous forest of Dvurechan Forestry of Kupyan Forest Farm on the outskirts of the village. Gorobovka Rescue units from Dvukhletnyaya and Kupyansk were dispatched to the scene. At the time of the rescuers' arrival, it was established that a coniferous forest on an area of about 80 hectares was burning," the message said.
Gusts of wind began to blow the flames from the tops of the trees to the residential sector of Horobovka, bordering the forest. Another 10 units of the rescue service from Kharkiv and other district units of the region were sent to the scene of the incident.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is in the Kharkiv region, convened an urgent meeting due to the forest fires in Kharkiv and Luhansk regions. According to the latest data, the area of the fire is 400 hectares, of which 100 hectares are mountain fires. The press service of the president reported this on Wednesday, September 2.
The head of state said that he intends to receive operational information about the fires and keep the situation under control.
"I demand quick reactions to such events. If necessary, we will organize the evacuation of all people, thinking first of all about their safety. Everything must be done for the fastest localization and extinguishing. And they should also think about allocating funding to cover losses. Not later, but now," Zelensky said.
The preliminary cause of the fire was the burning of a landfill, from which, due to gusts of wind, the fire spread to the forest. Firefighting continues, but the situation is complicated by strong gusts of wind.
