The FBI has completed the investigation into the crash of a military plane in Chugueve

Six people are brought to criminal responsibility

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation completed the pre-trial investigation into the crash of the AN-26Sh military aircraft in Chugueve on September 25, 2020. This is reported on the GBR website.

Six people are brought to criminal responsibility, namely:

  • commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • head of Kharkiv National University of the Air Force named after Ivan Kozhedub;
  • commander of military unit A4104;
  • deputy commander of military unit A4104;
  • deputy commander of a military unit for flight training;
  • head of air traffic control on September 25, 2020 at Chuguev airfield.

"Due to the negligent attitude of these officials to the military service, as well as violations of training for flights in the military unit and the rules of operation of the An-26 aircraft, 26 servicemen died," the GBR said in a statement.

In addition, on May 3, 2021, the Pecherskyi District Court chose a measure of restraint in the form of night house arrest for three persons who were declared suspicious.

As a reminder, on the evening of September 25, 2020, during planned training flights in the military unit in the town of Chuguev, Kharkiv Region, an An-26Sh military aircraft crashed and caught fire. On board the plane was the crew of the military unit and cadets of the Kharkiv Air Force University named after Ivan Kozhedub.

At this time, law enforcement officials informed all suspects, their defenders and relatives of the deceased about the completion of the pre-trial investigation and provided unrestricted access to the proceedings. According to the results of fulfilling the requirements of Article 290 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine, the indictment will be sent to the court.
