The Verkhovna Rada wants to return to the majoritarian election system

Like before.

The Verkhovna Rada submitted a bill on the return to the previous scheme of elections - a mixed party-majoritarian one, when half of the People's Deputies are elected on closed party lists, and the other half - on majority constituencies.

The authorities decided to abandon the scheme with open lists, which was tested in local elections.

The head of the "Servant of the People" faction, David Arahamia, has already stated that at least 300 votes will be gathered in the parliament for this law, and "Servants of the People" will definitely support this bill.

Arahamia said that the intention to abandon the proportional system of parliamentary elections and return to a mixed system is "activizing every day" in the Council.

"The whole parliament will support. I think there will be 300+ votes... our many majoritarians also want this," the head of the "Servant of the People" faction emphasized, adding that he does not see any obstacles to the return of the mixed system of elections to the Rada.

"They experimented with the new list system in local elections and saw a lot of negativity. The main disadvantage is that candidates who are on the lists of one party "annihilate" each other. Conventionally speaking, the third number begins to "spill" compromising information on the fifth number, which responds. As a result, there is a struggle within the list, and not with external opponents," the head of the monomajority faction explained the failure of the new election model.
