The current head of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, won the early presidential elections by a wide margin from his rivals, gaining more than 80% of the vote.
The head of the CEC, Nurlan Abdirov, said that almost 70% of voters, i.e. 8,3 million people, took part in the voting. About 6,5 million of them voted for the incumbent president.
Six candidates participated in the presidential race. However, Tokayev's opponents won 2-3% of the vote. It should be noted that all the candidates, except Tokayev, had not previously been seen in major politics.
Note that the presidential elections of Kazakhstan were to be held in 2024, and parliamentary elections in 2025. But on September 1, Tokayev announced early presidential elections. He proposed to establish the term of presidential powers for 7 years without the right to re-election.
