The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky praised his Moldovan colleague Maya Sanda for her position regarding the territorial affiliation of Crimea temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation. He wrote about it on Twitter.
The first meeting of the leaders of the two states took place in Kyiv on Tuesday, January 12.
"This is the beginning of new relations between Ukraine and Moldova. We are united by common values and positions on issues of the European agenda. We appreciate that the President of Moldova supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, is not afraid to call Crimea Ukrainian," Zelensky said.
Ukraine became the first country where Sandu made an official visit as president. In November 2020, she won the election of the pro-Kremlin candidate and current head of state Igor Dodon, who won 57,75% of the vote.
