President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to fire Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova if she does not show results by the end of this year. The guarantor stated this in an interview with the BBC.
The head of state explained that the predecessor of Venediktova, Ruslan Ryaboshapka, was fired precisely because he did not show results in six months of work - the landings promised by the president's team did not begin.
— I just immediately said: "Guys, we are going to build the country. Let's go change. You and I are equal. Please, you have never been the attorney general, I have never been the president. But you are a professional, go. And if in six months you don't show a real result, whoever you are, even if you are my friends, buddies, ministers, prime ministers"... — noted Zelensky.
Zelensky objected that six months is too short a period to judge the effectiveness of the work, that Zelensky has no more time.
- No, there is no time, you understand? That's all. They did not imprison anyone. They could not replant all the corrupt, I understand, six months is very little. But there must be steps, we must answer to the society to which we promised that there would be landings. We promised it. And if the current prosecutor general, the new prosecutor general, if she is a woman, a professional woman, if she does not show her results by the end of the year, I will give her the same answer, - Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized.
