President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky wrote a post on Facebook in which, in particular, he commented on local elections.
Thus, the head of state hinted that local authorities influence life in cities more than the president.
— The mayor and the local council often directly influence the quality of life much more than the president. Order and cleanliness on the streets, the state of the communal sphere, the operation of public transport, the support of local public projects — all this and much more is not within the powers of the president. This is what mayors and deputies of local councils can and should do. In recent years, thanks to decentralization, local authorities have received many times more budgetary opportunities to work for the people. But do they work for you? Will they work in the new realities? — wrote Zelensky.
It is worth noting that according to exit polls, the candidates from "Servants of the People" failed to lead the country's major cities.
The president also added that he would strictly monitor the newly elected local government.
— This is extremely important for the country. Because this is precisely about the quality of life. About what an ordinary citizen faces every day and what forms his perception of the professionalism of the government as a whole, - the guarantor emphasized.
Zelensky believes that Ukrainians will form a responsible and effective local government, and promised cooperation on the conditions of honesty and sincerity between the central government and local representatives.
