Ukraine proposed that NATO conduct air operations in the space above Crimea, since the responsibility for air traffic maintenance in the Simferopol flight information district (RPI) is delegated to Kyiv by international treaties.
This is reported on Online Ministry of Infrastructure.
This issue was discussed during the negotiations between the head of the department, Vladyslav Krykliy, and the Deputy Secretary General of NATO for Defense Policy and Planning, Patrick Turner, as part of the working visit of the government delegation of Ukraine to Brussels.
Kryklyi said that Ukraine adheres to the chosen course of integration into the Euro-Atlantic collective security systems. And one of the important directions of such integration is Ukraine's participation in the NATO air traffic data exchange program.
According to him, in modern conditions, it is important to strengthen the control of civil air traffic and to respond to crisis situations in the Black Sea region and the OOS zone.
"Taking into account the updated EASA bulletin on the safety of flights in the Simferopol flight information area and the cancellation of the restrictions of the US Federal Civil Aviation Administration on flights in the Simferopol RPI, we propose to use this part of the airspace for NATO air operations for the transportation of troops, equipment, cargo and the like . We hope for NATO's support in monitoring the air situation along the border with Russia," Krykly said.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the participation of the Ministry of Infrastructure in the process of preparing the joint Ukraine-NATO exercises in the Black Sea Coherent Resilience 2021, as well as in the process of creating a national resilience system in Ukraine.
In addition, Kryklyi and Turner discussed possible cooperation in the field of cybernetics.
