Turkey has banned the passage of Russian warships into the Black Sea. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Twitter.
"Thank you, my second mistress, to the President of Turkey Erdogan and his people for their strong support. The ban on the passage of Russian warships into the Black Sea and heavy military, humanitarian aid is extremely important today. The people of Ukraine will never forget this," Zelensky wrote.
Let us remind you that according to the Montreux Convention of 1936, Turkey controls the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits and has the right to regulate the transit of warships, to close the straits for foreign warships in wartime and in the event of a threat.
Ukraine's ambassador to Ankara, Vasyl Bodnar, asked Turkey to close the Dardanelles Strait to Russia.
