Turkey has a new "peace plan" for Ukraine: the mass media publish the main theses

Istanbul proposes to freeze the war on the entire front line

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, intends to promote a new project of a "peace treaty", which will supposedly freeze the war that the Russian Federation has unleashed in Ukraine. About this the edition "Novaya gazeta Evropa" with a reference to a source familiar with the document.

The draft agreement, which representatives of Russia, Ukraine and Turkey supposedly have at their disposal, is based on the documents of the first negotiations in Istanbul and part of the wording from May 2022.

This "peace initiative" of Erdoğan, according to the source, can be supported by a number of European politicians, it will also be offered for support to certain countries of the Global South.

According to the source, the draft contract provides for:

— the mutual commitment of the USA and Russia not to use nuclear weapons under any conditions. They also reinstate the Treaty on the Limitation of Strategic Arms (SNO-3) without the possibility of unilateral exit from it in the future;
— prohibition of interference in the internal affairs of another country in any way that may cause destabilization of its government;
— freezing of the war on the current front line;
— an obligation to hold referendums in 2040: all-Ukrainian referendums on the country's foreign policy course, as well as referendums under international control on all Ukrainian territories annexed by Russia at the time of the war freeze;
— guarantees of Ukraine's non-aligned status until 2040;
— exchange of captives according to the formula "all for all";
— Russia does not oppose Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

The publication "New Europe" considers the implementation of such an agreement unlikely, considering Ukraine's position, outlined in the 10 points of the Ukrainian "peace formula". Most of these points differ from Erdogan's proposal.

However, the very fact of the appearance of a new "peace plan" shows that the international community and individual countries continue to make efforts to find a way to end the war.
